What is Piatella? The exceptional cold cure hash

Piatella is a "cold cure" hash: a solventless cannabis resin, obtained through ice-water extraction (from a bubble hash base), then aged cold, under vacuum, for several days to several weeks. This low-temperature curing transforms the grainy texture of freshly extracted hash into a creamy, buttery, pliable paste, while preserving the plant's full aromatic profile. Emerging in the late 2010s among Spanish and Italian hash-making circles — its creation is often attributed to the Barcelona scene — Piatella has established itself as the benchmark of "new school" artisanal hash. In its CBD version, this craftsmanship is applied to hemp: our Piatella CBD features this supple, melting texture of Italian inspiration, with a THC content below 0.3%, compliant with European regulations.

Origin and production: where does Piatella come from?

Piatella is a recent arrival in the history of hash. It emerged in the late 2010s within a highly specialised artisanal scene spanning Spain and Italy. Its rise is often attributed to Barcelona clubs — the name Uncle's Farm frequently comes up as the first to present this resin as flat, glossy slabs — while its melting "Italian-style" texture gave it its identity and its name, evoking the small plate ("piatto").

Its production rests on three key principles, without any chemical solvents:

  • Raw material frozen at harvest: the plants are frozen as soon as they are harvested ("fresh frozen") to capture the trichomes and aromatic richness at their peak.
  • Ice-water extraction: the resin is separated from the plant by sieving with water and ice, the same principle as Ice-O-Lator bubble hash.
  • "Cold cure" ageing: the signature step. The resin is placed in an airtight environment, under vacuum and at low temperature, where it rests for several days to several weeks. This slow maturation homogenises the material and develops its characteristic buttery texture.

This last point is what truly sets Piatella apart: where a classic hash is pressed or heated, Piatella is never rushed. Cold and time do all the work, which explains both its rarity and its reputation for excellence.

Texture and aromas: a creamy, melting resin

Piatella's signature is its consistency. Supple, creamy, almost pliable, it is close to firm butter or soft caramel: it works easily between the fingertips without crumbling. This smoothness is the direct result of cold curing, which binds the trichome heads into a homogeneous paste.

On the nose, our Piatella CBD reveals an earthy, herbal bouquet, punctuated by peppery and slightly spicy notes. The melting texture releases these aromas gradually: the more the resin warms between your fingers, the more the profile expresses itself. It is a resin of character, both modern in its extraction quality and faithful to traditional hash craftsmanship.

Piatella, Ice-O-Lator, traditional hash: what are the differences?

Piatella belongs to the great family of solventless hash, but its curing sets it apart:

  • Compared with traditional hash (dry-sifted then pressed, like Moroccan or Afghan resins), Piatella offers a much suppler texture and a fresher aromatic profile, as the material is neither heated nor intensely pressed.
  • Compared with Ice-O-Lator, the difference comes after extraction: both start with ice-water sieving, but Ice-O-Lator is dried and offered with a sandy to crumbly texture, while Piatella continues into vacuum curing until it becomes creamy. Piatella is, in a way, a bubble hash that has taken the time to mature.

How to enjoy a Piatella CBD?

Piatella CBD is appreciated above all for its aromatic finesse, and some methods preserve it better than others:

  • Low-temperature vaporisation is the royal road: it renders the earthy, spicy bouquet without altering it. Start low and increase the temperature gradually.
  • Infusion works very well, provided you add a fatty base (whole milk, coconut oil) so the resin dissolves properly.
  • Combustion is not recommended: it destroys much of the aromas that give a cold-cured hash its value.

Store your Piatella in an airtight container, cool, dry and away from light — ideally in the refrigerator to maintain its texture. For a complete overview of methods, read our guide how to consume CBD.

FAQ: your questions about Piatella

What exactly is Piatella hash?

It is a solventless cannabis resin, extracted with ice water then aged cold under vacuum ("cold cure"). This curing gives it a unique creamy, buttery texture, very different from traditional pressed hash.

Why is Piatella creamy?

Its texture comes from low-temperature curing in an airtight environment: over the days, the trichome heads naturally bind into a homogeneous, pliable paste, without pressing or heating.

Is Piatella CBD legal?

Yes. Our Piatella CBD contains less than 0.3% THC, in accordance with European regulations, and every batch is tested by an independent laboratory.

What is the difference between Piatella and Ice-O-Lator?

Both start from ice-water extraction, but Ice-O-Lator is dried and keeps a sandy to crumbly texture, while Piatella undergoes cold vacuum curing that makes it creamy and melting.

How should Piatella CBD be stored?

In an airtight container, cool, dry and away from light. The refrigerator is ideal for preserving its buttery texture and aromas over time.
